About Us
Hermitage Primary School opened in 1970, and caters for boys and girls, aged 4-11 years of age. At present, there are approximately 210 children on roll. There are eight separate teaching spaces, each one having an adjoining activity area. The hall is at the centre of the school and provides a natural focus for assemblies, music, drama and physical activities.
Outside there is a large hard surface play area with a ball wall and marked out with a netball and basketball court. An attractive pergola offers seating for a class of children to read, draw and talk with friends. We also have a covered outdoor classroom area used for a vareity of different curriculum activities.
A bark chip adventure area with a triple balance beam, chain walk, limbo hurdles, balancing logs and log walk weavers adjoins the fast play area. The tarmac has a variety of games painted on it including a 100 number square, snakes and ladders game and activity trail.
The large field is well used for football, cricket, athletics and play. The grounds are landscaped and a small woodland area has been developed for imaginary play and scientific study. The children helped to design and build a willow tunnel at the edge of the playing field.
Our school also has a resourced provision for children with autism. This was established in 2007 and can take seven pupils from age 4-11. The children are included in their mainstream class as much as possible, with appropriate support from our specialist team; or they may be taught individually or in small groups for aspects of the curriculum that they find particularly challenging. We also have a speech and language therapist attached to the provision for one day each week.
